Week Four Awards For The Eagles
After week four, the Philadelphia Eagles move to 4-0 on the season after defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars 29-21. The team started slow but picked things up in the second quarter and took control the rest of the way. The offense was limited to the run game but showed they’re just as dominant. The defense did their thing in Week Four by forcing timely turnovers. That said, some Fly Eagles Nation hardware is due before we go into Week Five.
The awards are Most Valuable Player, Offensive Player of the Game, Defensive Player of the Game, Special Teams Player of the Game, and Rookie of the Game. A player can get two or more awards and may repeat as many times as needed.
Most Valuable Player- Miles Sanders
Miles Sanders finally put all the doubts to rest. People were wondering if he could be a starting running back for this team, and he put up a career day to answer the questions. Sanders reached a career-high in carries and yards in the Eagles’ win. Even with all the touches, Sanders averaged five yards per rushing attempt in Week Four. He did not turn the ball over once and even hopped on a Jalen Hurts’ fumbled snap.
Sanders deserves this award for the week. After this performance, Sanders is third in the NFL in rushing yards behind Cleveland Browns Nick Chubb and former Penn State teammate and New York Giants Saquon Barkley. It’s only Week Four, but Sanders is playing into a new contract.
Miles Sanders’ stat line: 27 carries, 134 rushing yards, and two rushing touchdowns. Two catches and 22 yards.
Offensive Player Of The Game- A.J. Brown
While a player can get two awards, let’s save that for a time of necessity. A.J. Brown was great in the rain and earned this award. For the conditions of the game and the job he’s asked to do, Brown held onto the ball strong and caught everything going his way. Buff Batman is a safety blanket tight end in a superstar wide receiver body, and he showed that today. Hurts did not put the ball downfield unless it was to Brown and proved to be working.
After Week Four, Brown is third in the NFL in receiving yards and sits two yards behind Buffalo Bills Stefon Diggs and less than 80 behind Miami Dolphins Tyreek Hill. Sanders and Brown are putting on for the Eagles in the yards category.
A.J. Brown’s stat line: seven targets, five catches, 95 yards, and 19 yards per catch.
Defensive Player Of The Game- Haason Reddick
No brainer on this one. Haason Reddick wreaked havoc at Lincoln Financial on Sunday, just like he did at Temple University on Saturdays. Reddick received plenty of chances to rush Trevor Lawrence and he made it worth it. Every time he got to Lawrence for a sack, the Eagles got the ball back. That was the level of dominance Reddick had on display on Sunday. Well deserved DPOTG for the hometown kid.
The Eagles had two consecutive NFC Defensive Players of the week: Darius Slay and Brandon Graham. It would be hard for the NFL not to award Reddick for the week four performance.
Haason Reddick’s stat line: four tackles, one tackle for loss, two strip sacks, and two fumbles recovered.
Special Teams Player Of The Game: Jake Elliot
Jake Elliot was not perfect in Week Four as he missed his first PAT of the season, but he did his role. In the freezing rain, Elliot still put through two PATs and another field goal. An underrated feat by the Eagles kicker this week.
Rookie Of The Game: Jordan Davis
Jordan Davis might get a lot of these, and rightfully so. The first-round selection had his best game as a professional with four total tackles and a tackle for loss. With more time and reps, Davis will continue to build the depth of the defensive front and eventually lead the group. For now, this week four performance is a sign of his rapid growth.
