Week One College Football Best Bet Recap

Week one of the college football season is in the books and we did a pretty good job with our best bets! We are starting off the year going 6-3 with our best bets! We take a look at those games and see where we went wrong.

The Winners

North Carolina Vs. App St (UNC +2.5 -110)

This game was incredible to watch. All gas, no breaks. The game ended 63-61 with North Carolina winning in a classic shoot-out. This game came down to the 4th quarter when App St caught fire and ended up scoring 40 points in just the 4th quarter. North Carolina kept it close and that’s what we were banking on.

Houston Vs. UTSA (Over 62 Total Points -110)

This game should not have hit the over. However, in college football, the over is never dead. Houston struggled to score early in the game and it looked like UTSA was ready to pull off the upset. Houston answered the coaches call to wake up and score some points. Houston dropped 17 points in the 4th quarter to push the game to overtime. This game had to hit three overtimes to cash our bet. With 24 overtime points scored, our over hit. This game went from a guaranteed loss, to a fantastic win! Houston ended up winning 37-35.

Kentucky Vs Miami (OH) (Kentucky -15.5 -110)

I had this game scouted perfectly. I figured Will Levis would want to come out and put up some numbers and he did exactly that. Going 21/32 with 303 yards and 3 touchdowns, Levis led the wildcats to a massive 3rd quarter with 17 points to put the wildcats into cover. We will continue to look at Kentucky games until the sports books figure out they’re a top team in the SEC this year. Kentucky wins 37-15.

Arkansas Vs. Cincinnati (Arkansas -6.5 -110)

This game was my best bet of the week, putting 2 units on this game. The game was fantastic to watch, with constant action and a good amount of scoring. In my last week’s recap, I said to watch for KJ Jefferson to make a statement. He did. With a combined 285 yards and 4 touchdowns, KJ was the difference maker in this game. Cincinnati had a big 3rd quarter, dropping 17 points, but Arkansas managed to hold on with a touchdown in the 4th quarter to go up 31-17. The game ended 31-24 and Sam Pittman yet again covering a spread at home.

West Virginia Vs. Pitt (WVU+7.5 and Game Total Over 51.5 Points)

This game was great. Easily the best Thursday night game of the week. A back and forth game that was exciting to watch wire to wire. However, we didn’t predict the WVU offense to go mainly through their running backs. The biggest turning point of this game came when JT Daniels had the ball with 3:16 left on the clock in the 4th quarter. He threw a perfect ball that hit his receiver square in the hands, but the receiver tipped the ball right to the defender for a 56 yard touchdown. West Virginia got the ball back and drove down the field to no avail. A great fight that cashed both our bets with Pitt winning 38-31.

The Losers

Utah Vs. Florida (Utah -3 -110)

We talked about how the Florida Gators could win this game. It was behind the coaching of Billy Napier and QB Anthony Richardson. That is exactly what happened in this game. Richardson took over, finishing with 274 total yards and 3 touchdowns. He did it all. This game was back and forth and could have been won by either team. Good coaching can win you games. Both teams had one turnover, both teams had similar total yards, similar efficiencies , etc… this game came down to coaching and the will to win games by any means necessary. This was a solid bet and an okay loss that could have gone our way. We lost the bet with Florida winning 29-26.

Oregon Vs Georgia (Oregon +17 -110)

Hand up, this was bad. I didn’t think Georgia’s offense would be able to be that surgical, and make a top 15 ranked team look like an unranked group of five teams. Oregon had absolutely no business being in that game and the players reflected that mentality very early. You didn’t see any fights in them because at every turn Georgia was stomping out their hopes and dreams. Georgia looked like the best team in the country in week one and it wasn’t particularly close. This was a complete and total miss by me. We will not bet against Georgia any time soon. Georgia wins 49-3.

Oklahoma St. Vs. Central Michigan (OKST -21.5 -110)

This loss was heart breaking. Oklahoma St. had this game in the bag. I honestly stopped watching the score at half time when OKST was up 44-15. Mike Gundy then proceeded to run out the clock and try to get out of there with an easy win. What he didn’t account for was Central Michigan putting up 22 points in the 4th quarter. Great coaching by Central Michigan head coach Jim McElwain, to not let his team give up, but that doesn’t do us any good. This was an easy cover that could have put us at 7-2 but we settled for 6-3. OKST wins 58-44.

All in all this was a great opening week! A lot of fun games with exciting plays, and some extra cash in our pockets to go into week two. We finish 6-3 and could have been better!
