Week One College Football Best Bets Part Two
We went 2-1 on Thursday night game bets. We continue to look at this weeks slate of college football games and add to our list of best bets!
North Carolina vs Appalachian St
North Carolina had a week zero game where they managed to drop 56 points on Florida A&M. UNC QB Drake Maye put on a show, picking apart the Florida A&M defense for 294 yards and five touchdowns. Number one running back Omarion Hampton put on a show with 14 carries for 101 yards and two touchdowns. The Tar Heals lost their starting QB in Sam Howell, but they seem to have not skipped a beat.
Having a week zero opening game as a tune-up for App st gives UNC a big advantage. Appalachian St has made a name for themselves in the college football world in the last few years. With their cool uniforms and scoring first offense, they have become a national favorite for sports bettors. That being said, I think UNC is a deeper team and they have had an extra game to get ready. It’s tough to play App St on their home field, but I think North Carolina is the better team.
Best Bet: North Carolina +2 (-110)
#24 Houston vs UTSA
This should be a fun game. This game should be a slugfest of scoring plays and high-flying offenses. Both of these teams finished 12-2 last year, and are on the rise in the college football universe. Houston head coach Dana Holgorsen is excited to play UTSA for a few reasons, but mainly because they have similar teams. Both teams are starting a senior QB, both pass-first offenses, and both teams averaged 35 points per game last year. This game should show a lot of offense because both defenses aren’t particularly great against the pass. I don’t know who wins this game, but I do know the game total over is one of my favorite bets this week.
Best Bet: Game total over 62 points (-110)
#7 Utah Vs Florida
Florida currently owns the nation’s longest active winning streak in home openers at 32. However, none of those 32 games came against a ranked opponent. Florida snagged one of the most sought after young coaches in all of college football in Billy Napier. Billy Napier, who led Louisiana- Lafayette to four straight Sun Belt Conference championship games, gives Florida Gator fans something to look forward to. Florida isn’t considered to be a top program this year.
They still have talent but they are for sure rebuilding their program. Florida will be starting QB Anthony Richardson, who, when healthy, is electric to watch. He is a dynamic playmaker and with him at the helm of that offense, Florida can put some points on the board. However, we have only seen one full game of Anthony Richardson. We need to see if he can stay healthy all year.
It will be interesting to see how Florida’s run defense holds up to Utah’s double-headed attack of Tavion Thomas and Micah Bernard. People aren’t high on Utah this year, but I am low on Florida. I think Utah shows they are a more complete team and beat the Gators in the swamp.
Best Bet: Utah -3 (-110)
Miami (OH) Vs. #20 Kentucky
I can’t figure out why this line is so low. Kentucky, who some people have competing for the SEC East championship, has a possible top Heisman candidate in QB Will Levis, and an experienced head coach in Mark Stoops. Kentucky lost a few WR’s this offseason, but Will Levis will want to start hot and put on a show at home against a semi-decent matchup.
Miami OH is picked to win the Mid-American Conference East Division, they won’t be a cakewalk. Compared to what Kentucky sees every year in the SEC, however, they should be. Kentucky has a lot of hype this year with their team, the stadium will be packed, and the Wildcats will be flying come Saturday. Kentucky loses some of their veteran guys on defense and they lost top WR Wan’Dale Robinson to the NFL, but I think Kentucky comes out firing and takes care of business at home on a route.
Best Bet: Kentucky -15.5 (-110)
