Week Two College Football Friday Night Best Bets
With only two games on Friday, we have to find some best bets to capitalize on going into a loaded Week Two slate of great games. Here are those bests bets for Friday night.
Louisville @ UCF
Louisville had a rough Week One against Syracuse, only managing to score one touchdown. Syracuse, who isn’t known for their tremendous defense, managed to hold Louisville to 334 total yards. Louisville couldn’t keep up on offense and the three turnovers showed that. Pushing the ball down the field didn’t work for them.
When Louisville was down, it seemed impossible for them to put some points on the board and put together a good solid drive. Friday night shouldn’t be any different. Louisville, the once electrifying offense, has now regressed in a major way.
UCF has everything going for them. First off, they’re playing at home. UCF has the highest enrollment of any school in Florida, FBC Mortgage Stadium will be crazy. UCF also seems to be back to regular-UCF form with a high-powered offense.
Quarterback John Rhys Plumlee led the Knights to an absolute routing of South Carolina State 56-10. Plumlee threw for 308 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Knights also imposed their will on the ground, rushing for 297 yards. They had everything working for them. To be fair, South Carolina St. isn’t as good of a team as a major Power Five school in Louisville.
What we are banking on is that UCF loves to score points, and they love to score points at home. They don’t stop scoring. If they can win by 100, they will. I don’t think Louisville has what it takes to stop the UCF offense and I don’t think Louisville will score enough points to keep up with them if they can’t.
Best Bet Pick: UCF -5.5 (-110)
Boise St. @ New Mexico
This game is a tough one to look at. Boise St is coming off a loss to Oregon State at home 34-17 and New Mexico blowing out Maine 41-0. Boise State struggled to hold onto the ball. With three interceptions and two lost fumbles. Finding themselves down 24-0, Boise St had to throw the ball more than they were comfortable with. They still found themselves to be almost even with passing attempts and rushing attempts, but the Broncos couldn’t get comfortable on offense until they brought in backup quarterback Taylen Green.
Taylen came in and brought Boise St back to life. With Taylen’s athleticism and decision-making, he is going to help Boise St have a chance to score more points. Their defense is a whole other issue. The turnovers didn’t put the defense in a great position with Oregon St getting the ball in good field position, but Boise St still could have done a lot better. Boise St allowed 292 yards on 15 pass completions, that’s almost 20 yards per pass completion.
They didn’t do great against the rush either, allowing 178 yards on the ground. New Mexico lined up and bullied a weaker Maine team to the tune of 267 yards on the ground. They won’t be able to do that against Boise St.
New Mexico dominated Maine on both sides of the ball. To be honest, I don’t think I would be able to tell you that Maine even had a D1 football program. This game doesn’t give us much to look at, as it was a complete outmatching of skill and size. New Mexico came in and did whatever they wanted on offense, and completely shut down Maine’s offense. Holding Maine to a total of 118 yards is impressive. Looking at who they played, that stat is kind of watered down.
New Mexico had a rough offseason, losing most of their offensive production. They lost their starting quarterback, starting and backup running back and starting wide receiver. All in all, I think this game comes down to a feeling and not the numbers. I think Boise St is set for a bounce-back week with their new quarterback.
Best Bet Pick: Boise St -17 (-110)
These two games aren’t going to be exciting, but I believe that our best bets will help us to go into a loaded week two slate of games in the positive. This also gives us a reason to watch these games. Hopefully, our logic is sound and we can continue in the right direction and win some more bets!
