What Did Eagles Backup Kenny Pickett Say About Jalen Hurts?

In a recent interview, Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback Kenny Pickett shared his thoughts on joining the team and playing behind Jalen Hurts. Pickett, who was acquired by the Eagles in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers, expressed enthusiasm about being part of the organization.

Embracing the opportunity to learn from Hurts and operate under the guidance of new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, Pickett remarked, “It’s great to be playing with Jalen. He’s an incredibly talented player and stepping into this new system together allows for rich communication and learning amongst us and the coaching staff."

Pickett’s journey to Philadelphia has been eventful. Selected by the Steelers in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, he initially hoped to be Ben Roethlisberger’s successor. However, things didn’t quite pan out as expected during his time in Pittsburgh. In 24 starts, Pickett accumulated 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Now, with a fresh start in Philadelphia, he aims to make the most of his role as Hurts’ backup.

The Eagles faced a rollercoaster season in 2023. After starting strong at 10-1, they stumbled in the latter part of the regular season, finishing at 11-6. This marked the first time in NFL history that a team failed to win 12 games after such a promising start. The disappointment continued as they were easily defeated by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.

Hurts Looks To Help The Eagles Bounceback In 2024

Hurts, who had finished second in MVP voting the previous year, faced criticism for the team’s struggles. His performance dipped, throwing for 3,858 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions in 2023. Ball security also became a significant issue as he lost five fumbles.

The Eagles’ front office took action during the offseason, signing running back Saquon Barkley and bolstering the defense through free agency and the draft. Now, all eyes are on Hurts and the Birds as they aim to erase the memories of last season and regain their winning form.

As Pickett settles into his new role, he recognizes the talent around him and the opportunity to learn from Hurts. The quarterback room’s communication and collaboration will be crucial as they adapt to the new offensive system. For Pickett, it’s a chance to contribute to a special team and continue his NFL journey alongside a fellow talented signal-caller
