What The Numbers Say About The 49ers VS Jets

49ers, Jets, Preview, Stadium Rant

The Bay Area Kid returns to the bay for Monday Night Football, but will Aaron Rodgers's homecoming of sorts result in a win for the New York Jets? If fantasy sports and Draft Kings have taught the world anything, it's that predicting the outcome of an NFL Football game comes down to luck.

That won't stop experts and novices alike from taking a deep dive into history and statistics. This undertaking is riddled with error since statistical history itself is flawed. Trying to figure out what 53 players will do versus 53 players can't be determined by what 53 different players did against 53 different players in the past. Despite it being a fruitless endeavor, it won't stop this article from taking a plunge into the annals of football history.

Aaron Rodgers Versus The 49ers

Against the San Francisco 49ers, Aaron Rodgers has a career record of 6-3. He has completed 66.2% of his passes, for 288 yards per game, and 20 touchdowns to just 2 interceptions. There's no denying his success against the Gold and Red, but has ever played San Francisco in the first week of the season?

In 2012 and 2013, The Green Bay Packers opened their season against the 49ers. Aaron Rodgers has outstanding numbers in those games, completing 51 of 81 passes (62.9%) for 636 yards and five touchdowns to two interceptions. He is also 0-2 in those games, losing 30-22 in 2012, and 34-28 in 2013. It's possible he could have a great game and still lose, if history proves anything.

2023 49ers Versus Aaron Rodgers

Rodgers's season was cut drastically short in 2023, so to guesstimate how the most recent version of Rodgers would fare against the most recent version of the 49ers, one would have to use 2022 Rodgers versus the 2023 Niners.

The 2023 San Francisco defense wreaked havoc on opposing quarterbacks, causing signal callers to see an 8% drop in completion percentage. In 2022, Aaron Rodgers completed 64.6% of his passes, which means against the 49ers, he should be expected to complete 59.4%.

This poses problems for his win-loss record, as Rodgers is just 22-28 when completing under 60% of his passes for a game. Time will tell if his Jets receiving corps can help that number or hurt it.

49ers 30 Jets 13

This would be the easiest game to pick in a survivor's pool, and it's not because of statistics. Regardless of how the 49ers play Rodgers, and regardless of how Rodgers plays on Monday night, the one thing all fans can count on is that the Jets are gonna Jet.
