What We Learned From Texas Rangers' Opening Day Thriller

What a season starter for the Texas Rangers and Chicago Cubs going into extra innings with a back-and-forth battle. Ultimately the Rangers pulled it out with a 4-3 win and Rangers fans have a few key takeaways from the home starter that make this season very exciting.

Wyatt Langford

We were shown how Langford is ready for the show with the simple reaction he took when he stepped up to the plate for the first time. His reaction? Crack a smile and lock in. He put up a great night with one hit, one walk, and an RBI. The rookie had to step in at the bottom of the 10th inning with bases loaded. What did he do under intense pressure? He watched the first pitch right out of the pitcher's hand and stayed calm instead of chopping the bat at any ball that came near. He battled through a 1-ball 2-strike count while showing a strong appearance and battling off three fouls until hitting a chopper to 3rd base. He may not have hit the game-winning RBI but he kept the game alive and showed his mental strength. Expect a strong season from this power hitter.

Pitching

Nathan Eovaldi pitched a strong six innings giving up only two runs, four hits, and one walk. The bullpen remained strong throughout especially while closing the game out. Sborz and Yates came in and closed out an inning each with no runs in the transition to the close. Then Jose Leclerc threw a strong 9th inning giving up only one run due to a miscalled foul ball. David Robertson was a clutch veteran and closed out the 10th with bases loaded after nearly giving up a grand slam to Christoper Morel.

The Texas Rangers Fans

It's not all about the team for a great season and the Rangers crowd showed up and remained loud throughout the 10-inning war. Rangers fans can be proud to chant "Let's Go Rangers!"
