Who Qualified for USA In Badminton (2024 Olympics)

The 2024 Summer Olympics are just a week away, and it is a super exciting time. Whether this event takes place in the Summer or Winter, the Olympics never disappoints. In the days leading up to the Olympics, upcoming articles will spotlight the Olympic athletes who have made Team USA. The next sport feature in this article is Badminton.

Badminton is a racquet sport that involves hitting a shuttlecock (birdie) over a net. It can be played individually or in pairs. In the Olympics, the categories for which Team USA athletes have qualified include Men's Singles, Men's Doubles, Women's Singles, Women's Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.

Men's Singles - Howard Shu

At 33, he's returning to compete for a medal in Men's Singles. Remember, Shu participated in the 2016 Olympics but did not win a medal, finishing in 27th place. Given his extensive experience in badminton, it's unsurprising that he has been selected to represent the USA in Men's Singles once again.

Men's Doubles - Joshua Yuan & Vinson Chiu

Vinson Chiu is a notable figure in the Pan American Games, having won multiple silver medals in Men's Doubles. He also secured a silver medal at the World Junior Championships. Joshua Yuan is experienced in Men's Doubles Badminton and has been recognized as a promising young talent in American and international arenas.

Women's Singles - Beiwen Zhang

Zhang has represented the U.S. since 2013, having competed for China and Singapore in earlier competitions. She has distinguished herself in recent years, making it inevitable that she would represent the United States in the Olympics once more. Despite considering retirement after the 2021 Olympics, she continued and successfully made the team. Hopefully, she will successfully run in the Olympics and secure a medal.

Women's Doubles - Annie Xu and Kerry Xu

The Xu twins have qualified and will compete in the Olympics, creating quite a stir in the international badminton scene. Both sisters have delivered notable performances at the Pan American Games, Pan Am Championships, and BWF International events. Their strong performances are hoped to carry over to the upcoming Olympics.

Mixed Doubles - Vinson Chiu & Jennie Gai

Vinson Chiu is a notable figure previously listed with the Men's Doubles team. He will also be part of the Mixed Doubles team alongside Jennie Gai. Gai, who has been engaged in the sport since age seven, has competed in various championships. Together, Chiu and Gai make a compelling team, and both have a strong chance of securing a medal.

Interesting fact: Apart from Beiwen Zhang, every athlete who qualified for badminton was born or resided in California. Zhang, on the other hand, was a resident of Nevada.

These athletes will represent Team USA in the Olympic Badminton Games. It's a tremendous opportunity for each of them; hopefully, they will excel and perform exceptionally well. The aim is to secure a medal for the United States, and they have a great chance to achieve this goal.
