Who Will Win The Starting Jobs For The Titans?

The Titans went into this offseason looking to do a major overhaul to the roster. They have a plethora of positions open for competition. I talked about the roster turnover of 45.3% in my previous article “Where Will The Titans Stand At The End Of The Season.” These are some positions in camp that will be fun to watch.

Who Will Return Kicks And Punts?

Julius Chestnut held the position before suffering a season-ending hamstring injury in week 3. The rest of the kickoffs were dispersed between Chris Moore, Tyjae Spears, and Kyle Phillips. Tyjae Spears is a clear candidate for kickoff returns. He is shifty and runs hard. With the new kickoff rule, it would be advantageous to have a true returner.

This would leave Phillips, Jha’Quan Jackson, and Kearis Jackson. Kearis is working back from his season-ending ankle injury. Phillips was largely overlooked at the end of last season as he was a healthy scratch on more than one occasion. Jha'Quan was drafted specifically for his ability to return. Seeing who gains momentum in camp and the preseason will be interesting.

Who Is Going To Start At Saftey With Hooker?

Elijah Molden is the front-runner right now. We saw him attempt this last season, and it led to a below-average season. Hopefully, with new defensive backs coach Steve Jackson and coordinator Dennard Wilson, he can develop into what we need him to be.

The other options on the Titans roster are not great, with Mike Brown and Shyhiem Carter being the next on the depth chart. They drafted James Williams, but most expect him to be converted to linebacker.

There are a couple of options left out on the market. Marcus Maye and Justin Simmons are names many Titans fans are quelling for, but they would have already made a move if they wanted them. This is the thinnest group on the team, so it’s not as much of a battle for a starting spot as Molden’s progression in the new defense.

Who Starts At Right Tackle And Guard?

These two positions overlap slightly as Dillon Radunz, Leroy Watson, and Saahdiq Charles could start either position. David Brunskill will make a hard push for the starter at right guard. He is 30 and has five years of NFL experience.

Randuz is a player who will start on the offense this year, just wondering if it will be at right tackle or guard. Saahdiq Charles will surprise people and could be the starter at either position. Watson looks to be a versatile depth player These positions will bring the best competition for a team that desperately needs a good offensive line.

Who Are The Wide Receivers Behind The Obvious Three?

Hopkins, Ridley, and Boyd are the three starters, but who plays behind these three is a huge competition. Treylon Burks has to have a good season this year after not living up to being a first-round selection in the 2022 NFL draft. He has drawn lots of praise from coaches and we need him to take a major step in 2024.

Kyle Phillips, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Colton Dowell, Kearis Jackson, and Jha’Quan Jackson compete for the remaining spots. Dowell is trying to return from an injury he sustained in the last game of the 2023 season. Kearis is back practicing with the team last week in a limited role.

Kyle Phillips has shown flashes in previous seasons. Now we need him to become more consistent. NWI could find himself on the outside looking in as the team transitions to a more pass-heavy offense. How many receivers we keep on the roster will be interesting to see also.
