The Indianapolis Colts are coming off a 9-8 season where the team narrowly missed the playoffs and the AFC South division title. While the Texans could run away with the division again in 2024, that doesn't mean that the Colts should not be counted out to make a deep playoff run even as a wildcard. Here is why the Indianapolis Colts are 2024 NFL Super Bowl contenders and could be playing football this February.
Colts Have Big Expectations For Quarterback Anthony Richardson
After winning nine games despite rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson, who was drafted fourth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft and missed the majority of his rookie season, the team should be better with the former Florida quarterback under center. He showed many flashes before his injury and has a chance to be one of the NFL's most electric dual-threat quarterbacks if he can stay on the field.
Indy Had A Quiet Off-Season That Could Make Noise Late Season
While the Colts' off-season wasn't that exciting as they didn't make big splashes in free agency, the team did re-sign receiver Michael Pittman Jr and cornerback Kenny Moore III. The team also added Raekwon Davis, a defensive tackle who will be a good depth piece and take pressure off Grover Stewart.
In the 2024 NFL Draft, Indianapolis drafted their top defensive prospect in Laiatu Latu and another star in projected first-round receiver Adonai Mitchell, who fell to them at #52. Indy also drafted depth at cornerback, defensive line, and offensive line.
The Colts have a good coach in Shane Steichen, a strong offensive line, the potential to have one of the best offenses in the NFL, and a solid defense as well. If they get hot, the Lombardi could return to Indianapolis in the near future for the first time since 2006.
