Will Luis Robert Jr. Be In A White Sox Uniform Come September?

As if the 2024 season couldn't be going any worse for the last-place White Sox, rumors have been flying around that White Sox GM Chris Getz is looking to trade his all-star outfielder.

Historically Bad Year For The Southside:

The Chicago White Sox are on track to win only 41 games in 2024. Not only would that make them the worst White Sox team in their 123-year franchise, but it would also make them the fourth-worst team, based on winning percentage, in MLB history, surpassing the 1935 Boston Braves (38-115).

If the White Sox want to avoid total embarrassment for the 2024 season, then maybe moving their star Luis Robert Jr. isn't as crazy as it sounds.

Robert's Trade Value:

There's no point in asking what the White Sox need because they need everything. They need more top prospects and veteran players at every position to complete their roster. So, the question the White Sox should be asking is what/who can they get for Luis Robert Jr.?

There's no denying that Robert is a top-10 player in baseball. His defense, speed, power, contact, and above-average arm from center field are what separates him from the rest of the bunch. So, realistically, we're looking at a guy who's worth, at the minimum, a top-10 prospect in baseball.

Robert's 2024 Season:

Unfortunately for the White Sox, his trade value could be lowered since he was injured for about a month this year and his numbers have not been great since his return. After returning on June 4th, he's hitting .167 with a .231 OBP and 12 strikeouts in six games. He has slugged three HRs in his six games back, so that should bring his trade value back up.

Arizona Should Be Picking Up The Phone:

The time to win is right now for the Arizona Diamondbacks. A year after making it to the World Series, the D-backs find themselves 1.5 games back of a wildcard spot. They are also 12-19 against teams over .500, so if they want to keep their championship window open, changes need to be made on the field.

So, what would a Luis Robert Jr. trade to Arizona look like?:

To Chicago: SS Jordan Lawler (MLB's #8 prospect), 3B Eugenio Suarez, OF Druw Jones (MLB's #78 prospect)

To Arizona: OF Luis Robert Jr., SP Erick Fedde

This trade would benefit both teams as it would meet both of their needs. Adding Robert to their outfield would drastically improve their defense and it would add a power bat, which they are desperately missing out of Carol.

For the White Sox, they would be receiving the D-backs #1 and #3 prospects in SS Jordan Lawler and OF Druw Jones. In 10 games (7 in ACL, 3 in AAA), Lawler's batting .325/.417/.917 with 4 doubles and 1 HR.

Jones is batting .270/.392/.794 in 49 games with Visalia Rawhide in single-A ball. Jones has 10 doubles, 2 triples, 3 HRs, and 28 RBIs in those 49 games with Visalia.

The Clock Is Ticking... :

With the MLB trade deadline almost a month away, the time to move Luis Robert Jr. is closing for Chris Getz. The choice to move or keep Robert will affect the White Sox drastically. They either keep their star and rebuild around him, or they ship him off in return for a top-tier farm system.
