Win Your Dynasty League By Acquiring These Two Quarterbacks

Updated: Jun 11, 2023

Two Quarterbacks are clear winners after the 2023 NFL Draft. If you are looking for a QB to add to your roster and lead you to a championship in your Dynasty League, look no further. Here are the players that will get you there.

Justin Herbert, QB, Los Angeles Chargers

Justin Herbert just added two more weapons to the arsenal. With the Los Angeles Chargers drafting Quentin Johnston and Derius Davis, they are telling the league that they are ready for the next evolution of this offense. Kellen Moore is taking over as the Offensive Coordinator in Los Angeles.

He will improve Herbert’s aggressiveness, and the addition of Quentin Johnston proves just that. They want players who can make plays downfield. They could’ve chosen Zay Flowers or Jordan Addison to join their team but instead went with the tall, speedy playmaker.

Intended Air yards Per Pass Attempt, or IAY/PA, is a statistic that measures how far any attempted pass travels in the air and divides it by the number of pass attempts a Quarterback had that season.

Justin Herbert was 31st in IAY/PA last year at 6.4 yards (per Pro Football Reference). Before Moore took over as Offensive Coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys in 2019, Dak Prescott’s IAY/PA was sitting at 7.5 yards, good for 24th in the league in 2018. The following year, that moved up to 9.3 yards, finishing fifth in 2019.

The Chargers also added a speed demon in Derius Davis. Davis will operate as the fifth Wide Receiver behind Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Quentin Johnston, and Joshua Palmer on the team. He doesn’t move the needle too much for Herbert’s production, but the rocket-armed Quarterback now has a player with a 4.36-second 40-yard dash to stretch the field. Again, this only reinforces that they want Herbert to push the ball downfield.

With one of the best deep balls in the league, talented pass catchers all around him, and an Offensive Coordinator who will let him take chances, I project Herbert to reemerge as a top-six fantasy Quarterback in 2023. Justin Herbert is going to be fun to watch and after a down year last year, this might be the cheapest you are able to acquire him in dynasty.

Geno Smith, QB, Seattle Seahawks

Geno Smith now has the best trio of Wide Receivers in the league with Jaxon Smith-Njigba joining DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. Although Geno is not a long-term solution for your dynasty team, he will help solidify your Quarterback room for 2023. Geno finished as the QB5 in fantasy last year and will look to improve in his second stint as a starting QB.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba is about as safe of a prospect as there is. The only worry is the possibility that he re-aggravates the hamstring injury that kept him off the field in 2022. Smith-Njigba spent most of his time in the slot at Ohio State, and although I believe he can have success on the outside, he is likely to spend most of his time in the slot while Lockett and Metcalf operate on the outside.

Smith-Njigba ran a 6.57-second three-cone drill, which put him in the 96th percentile of Wide Receivers. He also posted a 3.93-second 20-yard shuttle, which put him in the 97th percentile of Wide Receivers for that drill (per mockdraftable.com). This dude is QUICK. His elite quickness and route-running ability allow him to easily create separation for Quarterback friendly targets. With Smith-Njigba set to work against the opponent’s second or third best Cornerback this season, he will be open more often than not for Geno Smith.

The Seahawks may not have been the best landing spot for Smith-Njigba’s production in his rookie year, but it sure is the best scenario Geno Smith could’ve hoped for to help improve upon his already impressive 2022 campaign. Look for Smith to be a top-ten QB in fantasy this year again. If you are in need of a one-year rental Quarterback this year in Dynasty, look Geno Smith’s way.
