Yankees Vs. Red Sox: Odds, Probable Pitchers, How To Watch, 4/9 At 4:05 PM EST

Despite being limited to four relief appearances last year, New York Yankees pitcher Luis Severino is back in the starting rotation. After having Tommy John surgery in late February 2020, Severino had a long road to recovery. Recently, there was some cause for concern after he had a start pushed back three days due to arm soreness.

As a 23 year old in 2017, Luis Severino burst onto the scene with a sub-3.00 ERA in 31 starts and 193 1/3 innings. Impressively, Severino only allowed 150 hits while striking out 230 and only walking 51. He followed it up with his 24-year-old season in 2018. 2018 was more of the same for Severino. Over 32 starts and 191 1/3 innings pitched, he struck out 220 batters while only walking 46. However, he did give up a few more hits (173). Severino has improved his K/9 ratio in a small sample size which makes it very interesting to see what he can do in 2022.

PROBABLE PITCHERS

NEW YORK YANKEES(0-0): Luis Severino (1-0, 0.00 ERA in 2021)

BOSTON RED SOX (0-1): Nick Pivetta (9-8, 4.53 ERA in 2021)

BETTING ODDS

New York Yankees -227

Boston Red Sox +165

The New York Yankees enter the game at 1-0 after a walk off single by new third basemen Josh Donaldson. Each team had to use seven relievers in their first game of the season making for an interesting rest of the series. Severino has done fairly well against Boston in his career. Over 14 games (12 starts), Seveino has struck out 80 Red Sox and only walking 21 across 74 innings. Nick Pivetta has had the opposite results. Against New York, Pivetta has allowed seven runs over nine innings across three appearances (two were starts).
