Zach Ertz May Have Early Season Fantasy Value
Zach Ertz signed a 1-year deal with the Commanders this past offseason. In the 2023 season, Ertz played 7 games with the Cardinals before suffering an injury to his quadriceps. In 3 of those 7 games, Ertz finished as a top-12 tight end in tight-end premium leagues. The Cardinals were a very lackluster team last season, so it was no surprise that Ertz was targeted a lot.
His high number of targets was the only reason he produced, as he managed only 187 yards. There is a chance he will get similar numbers of targets because the Commander's only proven target is WR Terry McLaurin. Washington did draft rookie TE Ben Sinnott, who may be Ertz's biggest competition, but traditionally, TEs take a little longer to adjust to the NFL pace.
Rookie Quarterback Jayden Daniels may also look at Ertz more, as the TE position is sometimes the safer option to throw to. Even though Ertz is on the decline, he could make an interesting backup TE to the roster this season, but he holds little to no long-term value.
Our consensus projections for Ertz in the 2024 season are 18 receptions, 146 yards, and 2 touchdowns.
