The 2024 regular season has ended, and the NFL playoffs will proceed without the Chicago Bears, who were eliminated after the Washington Commanders took victory over the New Orleans Saints in week 15. Here’s a recap of the disappointing 2024-25 Bears season.
Chicago Bears Start 4-2
After a disheartening 2023/24 season, the Chicago Bears started off the 2024/25 season, redeeming fans’ hope. The team gained quarterback Caleb Williams, and the preseason went better than expected, winning all of their games.
Chicago’s optimism was revived, and their confidence began to show at the beginning of the regular season. In week 3, Williams had 363 passing yards, making him have the most passing yards as a Bears rookie in a single game within franchise history.
By week 5, Williams had become the first rookie QB selected No. 1 overall in the common-draft era to win each of his first two home career starts. After week 6, The Bears were off to a 4-2 start, winning more than half the games they did in the 2023 season. Offensive players Moore, Allen, Odunze, Kemt, Shelton, and Wright successfully started to build a connection with Williams, leading them to victories.
But They Finish 5-12
Unfortunately, the team went downhill after the Bear’s bye week in week 7. Not only was offensive coordinator Shane Waldron fired mid-season, but so was head coach Matt Eberflus, leading the team to chaos.
Following the team’s last-second losses only added to the lack of confidence that came along with the beginning of the season. Williams started taking consistent sacks; offensive and defensive plays and positioning were frequently misconstrued, and plays were often misleading.
Although the second half of the season could not have been more intimidating, the Chicago Bears ended their season with a rivalry victory against the Green Bay Packers. Williams finished his rookie campaign with the most total yards in the franchise single season by a rookie, giving the team promise next season.
The search for an official head coach continues, but one can only hope it will uplift the team and give them a shot at next year’s season.
