The Philadelphia Eagles hired Kellen Moore as their offensive coordinator ahead of the 2024 season, hoping to revive an offense that collapsed late in the 2023 season. Moore is a young, up-and-coming coach in the National Football League. The 36-year-old has had a lot of experience and success going back to his college days.

Moore’s time in Philadelphia may be coming to an end after just one season. The New Orleans Saints and Jacksonville Jaguars reportedly requested to interview the offensive guru for their head coaching openings.

The Saints fired former head coach Dennis Allen after their Week 9 loss to the Carolina Panthers, the team’s seventh consecutive loss. Special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi replaced him for the remainder of the season. The Jaguars fired former head coach Doug Pederson after three seasons. He has a 64-66-1 head coaching record, including a Super Bowl win with the Eagles in 2017. Other organizations will likely request interviews with Moore as the offseason progresses.

The Eagles finished the 2024 season with a 14-3 record and a historically good run game under Moore’s offense. The Saints (5-12) and the Jaguars (4-13) could use major improvements in all aspects of their offensive attacks heading into 2025. The Saints were No. 21 in total offense, and the Jaguars were No. 25 in 2024. The Eagles were No. 8 under Moore.

Not only has Moore had an impressive start to his NFL coaching career statistically, he’s also helped elevate his players’ game. Whether he coached his offensive players to career years or helped them earn Pro Bowl honors, Moore has had a track record of getting the most out of his players throughout his seven-year coaching career.

Kellen Moore’s Playing And Coaching Career Has Turned Him Into A Strong Head Coaching Candidate

After redshirting his freshman year at Boise State, Moore took over the starting quarterback duties in 2008. He finished his collegiate career with a 50-3 record, throwing for 142 touchdowns and just 28 interceptions. Moore was a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2010, finishing fourth place behind LaMichael James, Andrew Luck, and the winner, Cam Newton. Despite his incredible collegiate success, Moore went undrafted in the 2012 NFL Draft. The Detroit Lions signed him as an undrafted free agent, where he spent the first three years of his NFL career.

Moore moved on to the Dallas Cowboys in 2015, spending three seasons there as a player. He never appeared in a regular-season game with the Lions, but he had the opportunity to play in three games with the Cowboys in 2015. Moore finished his NFL career with a 0-2 record, 779 passing yards, four touchdowns, and six interceptions. He retired in 2018.

Following his retirement, Moore joined the Cowboys’ coaching staff in 2018 as their quarterbacks coach. He was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2019 and remained in that role through the 2022 season.

Moore was hired as the Los Angeles Chargers’ offensive coordinator in 2023. He spent one season there before joining the Eagles’ coaching staff under head coach Nick Sirianni.

Moore had a track record of successfully running passing offenses throughout his time with the Cowboys and Chargers. It took some adjusting through the first few weeks of the 2024 season with the Eagles, but he stayed true to the team’s identity over the last few years. Moore committed to Saquon Barkley and the run game, helping the Eagles win 12 of their previous 13 games.

What’s Next For Kellen Moore And The Eagles?

The Eagles will likely lose Moore to a head coaching gig in 2025. Organizations have been hiring young coaches, and Moore might be the next one to get an opportunity. If this becomes a reality, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will play for his sixth play-caller in six years. It’s been a revolving door of offensive coordinators for Hurts and the Eagles’ offense, and it affects a team more than people may think.

There have been rumors in Philadelphia whether the Eagles would consider promoting Moore to head coach and letting Sirianni go. Sirianni has been under scrutiny since becoming head coach because of his emotional personality and unconventional tactics. Some believe the Eagles shouldn’t let Moore walk despite Sirianni’s success throughout his four years in the City of Brotherly Love. Moore is an established leader going back to his playing days and has an impressive offensive track record as a coach, but he’ll have to look elsewhere if he wants to be a head coach in 2025.
