Sam Darnold had an MVP-caliber season with the Vikings. Now he gets to reap the rewards with a new deal with Seattle.

Can Sam Darnold Keep His Magic Going In Seattle?

Sam Darnold

Darnold had a magnificent season in Minnesota.

He threw for 35 touchdowns but also had 12 interceptions. The now-former Vikings QB threw for 4,319 yards as well. That is the first 4,000-yard season of his career. Darnold’s previous best came back in 2019 with the Jets when he threw for 3,024 yards. Darnold to Seattle is a great move for both teams.

The Seahawks needed a new QB after trading Geno Smith to the Raiders, they turned to the best option available. Seattle signed Darnold to a 3yr/$100.5 million contract. That may be pricey for a QB who has statistically only had one good NFL season, except Seattle knew that was their guy. They didn’t want to let him get away.

On the other side, the Vikings certainly had a decision to make with JJ McCarthy on the roster.

He was injured last season and didn’t play so Darnold took over. Now he will be fully healthy and can lead this offense. Will he have learned some things from sitting behind Darnold last season? There will be lots of questions if he performs poorly and Darnold thrives.

Darnold Has To Prove That Last Season Wasn’t A Fluke

The former Vikings QB led them to the playoffs last season with a 14-3 record. He gave them a glimpse of what he could do in the right system. The issues arose in the tail end of the season. Darnold really struggled and it showed up in their playoff loss as well. They didn’t score a TD and lost 27-9 to the Rams.

Now as he takes over in Seattle, there needs to be a sense of urgency. The Seahawks just traded their number one WR DK Metcalf.

Darnold will hopefully give them a boost at the QB position.

End Of My Sam Darnold Rant

The Seahawks have a new leader at the QB position. Will Sam Darnold be able to continue producing at a high level? Seattle certainly hopes so because they are paying him $100.5 million.
