The SEC Tournament tipped off on March 12, 2005 with Four games.

Here’s a recap of the action:

Arkansas Holds Off South Carolina

The ninth-seeded Razorbacks held on to beat 16th-seeded South Carolina on Wednesday afternoon 72-68 after blowing a 20-point lead in the process. All season long, Arkansas has overcome adversity with injuries to the backcourt and then adding a Hall of Fame coach in the mix, but after today’s win, the Hog fans can relax and know they are going to be dancing come Sunday when the team selections come out.

Arkansas will now face No.8 Seeded Ole Miss Thursday in the second round.

Texas First SEC Tournament is a Success

Coming in today, Texas almost assuredly had to win this game and possibly one more game to feel safe. But for one afternoon, they are still playing after defeating Vanderbilt 79-72 in the first round of the SEC tournament.

Texas built a lead of 15 points at halftime and held on despite a furious rally by Vanderbilt in the second half. Now, the Longhorns will face Texas A&M on Thursday in the second round.

The biggest difference in this game was the defense, which kept Vanderbilt at bay during the first half and made some free throws and key buckets down the stretch to ensure they didn’t lose in their first-ever SEC tournament.

Josh Hubbard Show

The night session got under way as the No. 10 Mississippi State faced off with the No.15 seeded LSU Tigers.

Dominant performance from Mississippi State as, Josh Hubbard added 26 points as the Bulldogs beat LSU 91-62, marking a disappointing end to the Tigers’ season.

From the outset, it was all Mississippi State, as they built a 20-point lead by halftime and never looked back. They showcased an impressive shooting performance, hitting 52.2 percent from the field, while also putting on a dunking clinic throughout the second half.

Bulldogs will face No.7 seeded Missouri Tigers in the first game of the night session Thursday of the second round of the SEC tournament.

Oklahoma NCAA Tournament Bound?

In the late session of the first round of the SEC tournament, Oklahoma and Georgia came out firing and hitting shots. The Sooners shot 10 for 18 from deep in the first half, and Jeremiah Fears Jr., the star freshman, also had a big half as well.

Georgia kept pace as well, with Silas Demary scoring 24 for the Bulldogs, while Asa Newell added 17 in the losing effort. Georgia is likely still in the NCAA tournament next week, so this loss shouldn’t hurt too much. They put up a tremendous fight all night long but ultimately came up short in the end.

Oklahoma will now face No.6 seeded Kentucky in the late game on Thursday night.
