Here is our rundown of the elite power rankings in SEC women’s college basketball after week five:
Top SEC Contenders
1. South Carolina: The reigning national champions are still going strong, returning nearly everyone from last year’s squad, including sophomore MiLaysia Fulwiley, and adding No. 2 recruit Joyce Edwards.
The South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team is having an incredible season so far. With a current record of 21-1, they’re dominating the competition. They have secured victories against top-ranked teams like Michigan, NC State, LSU, Texas, and Duke. Currently the only team still undefeated in SEC play 9-0.

2. LSU: Kim Mulkey and the Tigers are having a phenomenal season! They’re currently ranked #6 and boast an impressive 23-1, 8-1 SEC record. The team has secured notable wins against top-ranked teams, including NC State and Stanford. They’ve also dominated in conference play, with victories over Arkansas, Auburn, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt.
Aneesah Morrow is a dominant force in the paint. Flau’jae Johnson is a dynamic guard who brings a high level of energy and athleticism to the court. Mikayla Williams is a versatile scorer who can play both guard positions and has shown a knack for making big shots. Together they form a formidable big three.

3. Texas: The Longhorns women’s basketball team is having an incredible season! With a current record of 22-2 overall and 8-1 in the SEC, they’re dominating the competition. As a preseason top five team they have maintained their top status.
Led by star sophomore Madison Booker and teammates Taylor Jones and Rori Harmon the Longhorns remain in the thick of the SEC race with a big showdown with South Carolina this week.

4. Kentucky: The Wildcats have a new coach in Kenny Brooks and brought All-American point guard Georgia Amoore and center Clara Strack with him, adding to their dynamic starting five. The Cats are coming off of a stellar week beating ranked Alabama and Oklahoma on the road.
Amoore’s 43 point performance against the Sooners earned her national player of the week honors. Amoore, Strack, Key, Hassett, and Lawrence form one of the top starting fives in the country. Sitting at 19-2, and 8-1 in the SEC has everyone taking notice.

Middle Of The Pack
5. Oklahoma: The Sooners return all five starters and added Oregon State transfer Raegan Beers, making them a deep and experienced team. At 16-6 and 4-5 in SEC play they have struggled more than expected. Still ranked 15th in the AP the Sooners are a talented team.
Up Next: At Ole Miss on Thursday and home versus Auburn on Monday night.
6. Ole Miss: The Lady Rebels are having a strong season, boasting a 15-6 overall record and 6-3 in the SEC (5th place). The Rebels have also shown resilience in close games as of late. They have been impressive on defense, holding opponents to just 52.9 points per game, which ranks sixth in the nation and first in the SEC
Up Next: Home versus Oklahoma on Thursday and then play Kentucky at home next Monday night.
7. Vanderbilt: The Commodores are having a strong season, boasting an 18-5 overall record and 5-4 in league games. They recently had their four-game winning streak snapped by Ole Miss, losing 76-61. Key players like Khamil Pierre, Mikayla Blakes, and Iyana Moore have been instrumental in the team’s success. Blakes has been sensational, setting the all-time single game scoring record for a freshman recently with 53 points at Florida.
Up Next: At Texas on Thursday and off on Sunday this week.
8. Alabama: The Crimson Tide is having a solid season, boasting a 17-5 overall record and 5-4 in the SEC. Key players like Sarah Ashlee Barker, Aaliyah Nye, and Zaay Green have been instrumental in the team’s success. Barker has been particularly impressive, leading the team in scoring and rebounding.
Up Next: Two road games, at Florida on Thursday and at Mississippi State on Sunday.
