Could general manager Joey Hortiz make a trade for Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp? It’s been widely known that the Los Angeles Chargers need some wide receiver help. After trading away Keenan Allen and Mike Williams last spring, the Chargers found a star receiver in Ladd McConkey in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Outside of McConkey, the group struggled throughout the season. With over $60M in projected cap space this offseason, it will allow Los Angeles to go out and improve the position on its roster.

Could Cooper Kupp’s Next Team Be In The Same Stadium?

X (formerly Twitter) user @_MLFootball proposed a trade that would send the former Triple Crown winner from the Rams to the Chargers.

Trade Proposal:

Chargers trade: 2025 3rd-round pick (69)

Rams trade: WR Cooper Kupp

Cooper Kupp has made it known on his social media that his days as a Ram are likely over. With the organization ready to move on, the Chargers should be on the phone trying to trade for the 32-year-old star. While Kupp has been an elite wide receiver for years, injuries are his biggest problem. He has missed at least five games in the last three seasons. When he is healthy, he could be a great weapon for Justin Herbert.

Kupp Has Been One Of The NFL’s Best When Healthy

While Kupp put up respectable numbers early in his career, he wasn’t that known around the league until his monster 2021 breakout season. In his first season starting all 17 games, the former Eastern Washington star caught 145 passes for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns. He broke the Rams receiving yards and receptions records while being named first-team All-Pro for the first time. In the postseason, Kupp’s NFL record 33 receptions helped lead Los Angeles to the Super Bowl. He was named Super Bowl MVP in the Rams’ 23-20 victory after catching the game-winning touchdown.

While Kupp has been on pace for 1,000+ yards in his last three seasons, he has failed to reach that number due to injuries. That shouldn’t scare the Chargers from trading for him, as his leadership, experience, and reliability will help boost the offense while taking another step toward becoming a Super Bowl contender. For a third-round pick, it would be worth the gamble to give Justin Herbert his go-to target.
