With the Undisputed WWE Championship and the Winged Eagle championship hanging above the ring, Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens had a ladder match to determine the rightful champion. Would Owens get to hit a package piledriver, or would Cody Rhodes prevail? The story continues on the road to WrestleMania.
Undisputed WWE Championship Ladder Match At WWE Royal Rumble
This started as a fistfight, with Owens in control early, quickly using a ladder as a weapon. Within minutes they were fighting throughout the crowd. Cody laughed with the audience, smashing one of their beer over Owen’s skull. Owens gained control and was the first to attempt climbing a ladder for the titles.
Cody was the first to touch the titles, but Owens hit Rhodes with a vicious powerbomb off the ladder. The physicality was quickly turned up, with both men taking numerous vicious slams on ladders. Following an avalanche fisherman buster onto a ladder bridge, WWE officials had to check on both stars.
Owens was the first to show color, bleeding from the forehead area. Rhodes landed numerous blows straight to the cut, before hitting a violent Alabama Slam, off the announce desk, through a ladder bridge set up on the apron.
