Cricket enthusiasts eagerly awaited Virat Kohli’s 13-year return to the Ranji Trophy. Thousands of people flocked to the Arun Jaitley Stadium, eager to see the star batsman in action, showing their enthusiasm surrounding his return. Still, the fans were let down by Kohli’s brief stay at the crease.

Virat Kohli’s Brief Stay On The Crease

Among loud cheers, Virat Kohli walked in and faced just 15 balls before being out for six runs. The former Indian captain tried to drive a fuller-length ball heading outside off-stump from right-arm pacer Himanshu Sangwan. A space between bat and pad let the ball seam in, leveling his off-stump. Since Kohli had slammed the earlier ball for a border, his intent was aggressive.

The spectators fell silent when Kohli marched back to the pavilion, first excited. Fans had put their hopes on seeing a traditional Kohli knock, so his early removal started a large stadium exodus. Spectators who had waited politely for more than a day to watch him bat exhibited displeasure.

Fans’ Response

On the opening day of the game, over 15,000 fans packed the stands. Having chosen to bowl first, Delhi held Railways to 241. Fans hoped Delhi would lose a wicket on the second day to guarantee Virat Kohli’s entrance when play restarted. The stadium exploded in celebration when Yash Dhull was let go, for the World T20 winner would follow.

But their excitement turned to disappointment when Kohli’s stint proved very short. Still, under his disciplined leadership, Sangwan ignored Sanat Sangwan just after Kohli left. With Delhi still behind, captain Ayush Badoni and the rest of the batting lineup were now tasked with putting up a decent total.

End Of Rant

Virat Kohli’s return to domestic cricket was intended to be nostalgic and celebratory. It reminded the cricket fraternity that the sport is still unpredictable, even for the best players. Though fans left the stadium let down, they will wish for a better performance in the second innings. Kohli will have another opportunity to show his class in this Ranji Trophy game since the spotlight remains on him. For more fearless sports coverage, visit Stadium Rant.
