Five Interesting Super Bowl Needy Teams With A Shot To Win It In 2023

Nothing compares to winning the Super Bowl. It’s an achievement every football player and coach dreams of. Lifting the Lombardi Trophy as confetti rains down and celebrating with family and friends.

Will we see a first-time champion next season? Here are five teams without a Super Bowl title who can compete for the title in the 2023 season.

Super Bowl Royalty & Missing Super Bowls

The New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers have each reached the mountain top seven times. The San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers and New York Giants have each been the last team standing on four or more occasions.

However, 12 NFL teams have yet to hang a Super Bowl banner in their stadiums. Some have waited longer than others. The Houston Texans for example, have only played 20 NFL seasons but no title. The Arizona Cardinals have won two NFL Championships (1925 and 1947) in their 103-year history but have yet to win a Super Bowl.

A Championship For DUUUVAL

Doug Pederson won the Super Bowl in 2018 as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. He now looks to do the same in the 2023 season with a team that has never appeared in the big game. The Jacksonville Jaguars were the most improved team last season. The team went from picking first in the 2022 NFL Draft to winning the AFC South division title and completing a shocking 27-point comeback in the wild-card round.

There’s no lack of talent on the Jaguars roster. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence took a massive step in his second year and should be even better this season. If running back Travis Etienne can remain healthy, he may have a career year. While Josh Allen, Travon Walker and Rayshawn Jenkins will hold it down on defence.

Jacksonville has the ninth easiest strength of schedule based on projected win totals next season. Considering that they play in a division with two teams expected to field rookie quarterbacks, 2023 could be the year of the Jaguars.

NFC North Favorite

With Aaron Rodgers landing with the New York Jets, can the Detroit Lions become the next Super Bowl Champion in the NFC North?

Detriot is currently a +140 favourite to win the division and sits at +2500 to win the Super Bowl. Despite four NFL Championships between 1935 and 1957, the Lions have never appeared in a Super Bowl game.

Despite a young roster, the Lions have Super Bowl experience at the game’s most important position. Quarterback Jared Goff went to Super Bowl LIII as the starter for the Los Angeles Rams. Goff completed 50% of his passes for 229 yards and an interception in the Rams’ 13-3 loss to the New England Patriots. If the Lions want to compete next season, they’ll have to rely on a group of young up-and-coming superstars facing much higher expectations.

Lightning In A Bottle

The Los Angeles Chargers are coming off one of their most disappointing playoff performances after giving up a 27-point lead on Wild Card Weekend.

Despite a lack of postseason success, the Chargers have one of the most exciting rosters in professional football. Quarterback Justin Herbert is as electric as any young QB in the league. The addition of Quentin Johnston at this year’s NFL Draft gives L.A. one of the better wide receiver rooms. Plus, the team added Eric Kendricks to a defence with Joey Bosa, Khalil Mack and Asante Samuel Jr.

Playing in the AFC West is no easy task. Because of that, Los Angeles has the seventh most-difficult projected strength of schedule in 2023. If the Chargers can find a way through, they could lift their first Lombardi Trophy come February.

Rule The Jungle

After losing in the big game in 2021 and falling in the Conference Championship last year, it feels like a Super Bowl title is within reach for the Cincinnati Bengals.

With quarterback Joe Burrow carrying a cap hit of only $11.51 million in 2023, the Bengals can continue to build around their star. The addition of left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. will provide Burrow with an excellent offensive line. Add a wide receiver room of Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd and Cincinnati should have one of the league’s top offensive groups.

As a result, the Bengals have the fifth-best odds to win Super Bowl LVIII at +900. If the team can secure a home-field advantage throughout the postseason, they’ll have a terrific opportunity to win it all.

A Title For Bills Mafia

The Buffalo Bills are the only team to appear and lose in four straight Super Bowl games. Will the 2023 season finally be “the one”? The Bills have the second-hardest projected strength of schedule, facing teams like the Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys. However, Buffalo has the third-best odds to win the title at +800.

Buffalo’s roster is just as talented as the others listed above. Quarterback Josh Allen, wide receiver Stefon Diggs, defensive end Von Miller and safety Micah Hyde are only a few of the Bills’ top players. If the Buffalo ends the season as the league champions, Bills Mafia will have a celebration like we’ve never seen before.

Final Thoughts

One honorable mention to this list would be the Minnesota Vikings. The team holds the seventh-best winning percentage in NFL history. They’ve made four Super Bowl games but failed to win any of them. While the roster seems a piece or two short of a title contender this season, anything is possible. For now, their fans join the other 11 fanbases patiently waiting to celebrate on the second Sunday in February.
