The Buffalo Bills Are Expected To Lose These Two Outstanding Players

Updated: Jun 28, 2023

The Buffalo Bills saw themselves leave the postseason early again last season after they lost to the Cincinnati Bengals in the divisional round. The Bills were one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl all season, and they fell short of their goal once again.

The Bills will be seeing changes to their team this offseason, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Bills are “expected to lose” safety Jordan Poyer and linebacker Tremaine Edmunds in free agency.

The Bill’s defense is expected to take a huge hit if both players walk in free agency, and the Bills will need to figure out replacements quickly.

Where Will Jordan Poyer Land?

Jordan Poyer has been in the NFL for ten seasons and has spent the last six in Buffalo. Poyer started his career in Cleveland and Philadelphia, but he never flourished until he got to the Bills.

The Bills developed Poyer into one of the best safeties in the NFL, and he was named to the All-Pro team in 2021. Poyer will turn 32 in April, and that is probably one of the main reasons the Bills are not expected to bring him back. 32 years old might seem young, but in football that could be the age that your career starts to take a downhill turn.

Poyer stated he wants to play in a state that doesn’t take half of his money but if he wants to win I think he will have to suck it up and play in one of those states that will be taking some of his money.

Poyer was one of the main reasons why the Bills started to turn around and become a contender in the past three years, and his shoes will not be easy to fill.

I think Poyer will go back to the Eagles. The Eagles are expected to let safety C.J. Gardner Johnson walk, and they will need safety to replace him.

The Eagles have a very talented defense and Poyer should be able to fit right in and help lead the secondary.

Where Will Tremaine Edmunds Land?

Tremaine Edmunds was drafted by the Bills with the 16th pick in the 2018 draft and he came on the scene quickly. Edmunds was named to the Pro Bowl in 2019 and 2020 and has played five seasons in the NFL.

Edmunds was named the most improved Bills player according to Pro Football Focus he went from a grade of 48.5 in 2021 to 81.2 in 2022.

Edmunds is still very young and will turn 25 in May. Edmunds has a handful of years left, but the only issue is he plays linebacker, and in the modern-day NFL the position is just not valued as it once was.

I think Edmunds could end up in Dallas. This just seems like a Dallas move their linebacker Leighton Vander Esch is set to free agency, and Jerry Jones will want to find someone to replace him right away.

Why Buffalo Will Be Fine?

The Bills will need to figure out how they will replace Poyer and Edmunds and if they want to do it through players on their roster already, free agency, trade, or the draft, but however, they do it it will probably be the right solution.

Bill’s Brandon Beane is one of the best general managers in the NFL, and he is great at finding and acquiring talent so I expect him to do whatever he can to find the best possible players to fill the roles in their defense and keep the Bills a contender for the next handful of years.
